The taxi driver: That will be 30 dollars.
John: What? You just went one block.
The taxi driver: Sir, that is how much the fare is.
John: Look, I wasn’t born yesterday. You are trying to rip me off.
The taxi driver: Sir, time is money and I am wasting time and losing money arguing with you. You have to pay that fare.
John: You think I am some gullible tourist? I am well-schooled on how this scam works. Do you know I travel all over the world on business. I know what’s what. I want your name and cab number.
The taxi driver: Why?
John: Because I am going to make an example of you. I am sick and tired of dealing with people looking for a hand out. I am going to demand you be fired.
The taxi driver: Look sir, I am sorry. Please forgive me. I didn’t mean anything by it. I am sorry for trying to take advantage of you. Please, I’ll just charge you the usual fare: 10 dollars.
John: Good. That’s better. I hope you’ve learned your lesson. Bye.
The taxi driver: What a sucker!
A Police Interrogation
A: I have nothing to say any more. I have told you everything.
B: We will be here until you tell me how the gun used to kill Penny Marks ended up in your car.
A: I told you, I am being set up. I don’t know how it got there. I swear I am being straight with you.
B: Let’s rehash the story again because what you have told me so far just doesn’t wash with me.
A: What kind of Mickey Mouse investigation is this? You guys set your sights on me from the get-go.
B: Let me write down the laundry list of evidence.
1. Personal relationship with the victim.
2. Witness that saw you arguing.
3. And the most incontrovertible proof is the gun in your car.
A: Look, I am telling you I have no idea what you are talking about.
I didn’t even know this girl. What do you mean personal relationship? We had coffee once or twice at Starbucks.
B: You know, you are a real piece of work. That hot air you feel every time you turn around is going to be me breathing down your neck. You are going down for this.
A: I want my lawyer.
B: I thought that it was about time to lawyer up.

I have been living in Tokyo for about three years, and I must say that things here get done faster than a NY minute. We may need to change that idiom to getting things done in a Tokyo minute. The rush hour traffic and the crowded trains are enough to test the patience of the calmest commuter. After surviving the rush hour commute in Tokyo, one can’t help but feeling that have indeed dodged a bullet. There have been so many times here that I have felt like I didn’t know whether I was coming or going. Despite the fact that Tokyo is so congested, I feel that it is the most happening place in the world. Tokyo is the fashion and electronics mecca. It is an amazing place to live and work. The city is filled with people from every walk of life who help make Tokyo the most unique city in the world.
